CPD or Continuing Professional Development is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. These programmes enable learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than simply reactive. Continuing Professional Development can be stand-alone modules that are usually taken after a primary degree has been achieved. Certain professional bodies might require members to undertake a number of courses or hours every year to remain certified as members or professionals. Some CPD courses may offer awards which fall on the National Framework of Qualifications while other programmes offer specialist hours which can count towards a professional’s annual requirements.
