UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Medicine (Systems Biology Ireland).

The RAS-RAF signalling pathway plays a critical role in controlling the proliferation, differentiation and survival of cells. Most of these functions are carried out by RAF activating the ERK pathway. However, we have previously discovered that RAF also can control the MST2/Hippo pathway and regulate apoptosis via this pathway (O’Neill et al., Science 306:2267-70, 2004; Matallanas et al. Mol. Cell 27:962-75, 2007; Matallanas et al. Mol. Cell 44:893-906, 2011; Romano et al. Mol Cell Biol. 33:1859-68, 2013; Romano et al. Nature Cell Biol. 16:673-84, 2014). This control is exerted by RAF directly binding to and inhibiting MST2. We have identified small molecule inhibitors that can modulate this protein interaction as well as apoptosis potentially opening a new avenue for cancer treatment. This project is already well progressed, and the postholder will focus on carrying out experiments that are needed to finish the project and prepare a publication. For this the postholder will work as part of an interdisciplinary team in Systems Biology Ireland.

PD1 Salary: €38,631- € €44,658 per annum PD2 Salary: €45,942 – €50,030 per annum Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
