The Irish Universities Association (IUA) invites the public to attend the national final of the prestigious Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition. The event will be held at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. You are also invited to watch it online.
This unique academic competition showcases the exceptional communication skills of the nation's top doctoral researchers. Seven finalists, each a winner of their respective university's competition, will compete for the national title. The challenge is formidable: to present their 80,000-word thesis and years of intensive research in just three minutes, using only a single static slide.
Originally developed by the University of Queensland, the 3MT® competition trains graduate students to explain the significance and impact of their work to a non-specialist audience. It demands that participants distill complex, niche subjects into engaging and accessible presentations that both inform and entertain.
The 2024 national champion, Aideen McCabe from University College Cork, exemplifies the high calibre of this event. Attendees will witness a display of intellectual clarity and public engagement prowess, spanning a diverse range of research fields.
This event is free to attend, offering a fascinating insight into the groundbreaking research being conducted in Irish universities. Registration is essential, with options available for both in-person and online attendance.
