On Friday, 14 June, the Centre for Assessment Research, Policy and Practice in Education (CARPE) at Dublin City University’s Institute of Education hosted Professor Phillip Dawson from Deakin University, Australia, for a special seminar titled “Reimagining Assessment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The event brought together academic and professional staff from across the Institute of Education to explore how generative AI is reshaping traditional assessment methods and how institutions can adapt to maintain meaningful, inclusive, and valid evaluation.
Professor Dawson, a globally recognised expert in assessment, academic integrity, and digital learning, shared both strategic perspectives and practical advice. His keynote was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Dr Paula Lehane (CARPE), featuring representatives from several Irish organisations including QQI, Nain, Microsoft Ireland, and CARPE. The session generated insightful conversations on the evolving role of higher education in redesigning assessments amid rapid technological advancements.
The seminar also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between CARPE and international leaders in educational assessment, reinforcing the centre’s commitment to driving policy and practice through research-informed dialogue.
