The Department of Sociology and Centre for the Study of Politics at Maynooth University is hosting a one-day research symposium titled Practice and Purpose: Considering Reciprocities and Applications of Contemporary Social Research.
The symposium will take place on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at Maynooth University in the School of Education.
The one-day symposium will serve as an enquiry into the nature and purpose of contemporary social research. Participants will be encouraged to explore issues that surround the pursuit of data, consider who benefits from its collection and what purposes it serves in real-life applications. We will also consider the emerging ethical issues in present-day research and how to best address them.
Maynooth University are welcoming abstracts of up to 300 words max from postgraduate students and early career scholars who are interested in presenting a paper. Maynooth University are open to submissions from across the social sciences including but not limited to sociology, politics, geography, anthropology, criminology, equality studies and international relations.
