IUA Future of Ireland Webinar: Grand Challenges for Irish Research

Given the critical role research will play in the national recovery and rebuilding Ireland’s future, and in driving forward transformation in our socio-economic systems across Europe, the Nov 17th Future of Ireland event will focus on how research can benefit society as a whole. As you know, Ireland, and our partners across Europe, face significant socio-economic challenges as we emerge from the current crisis and face more uncertain times internationally. We are in a whole new world where knowledge and expertise will shape our place on the international stage and help prepare us for the future.

As the voice of Irish universities, the Irish Universities Association (IUA) is dedicated to supporting the universities in learning and teaching, enabled by creative scholarship and research which is then applied to enhance the economic, social and cultural well-being of our nation. Through every aspect of our work we strive to create the best system possible for our students, our staff and our society. Through sectoral policies, strategies and projects we support our member universities to respond to the rapid changes in how students learn, how education is delivered in order to build a fit-for purpose university system for the next generation.

The Government has set a target to make the Irish education system the ′′best in Europe′′ by 2026. The universities share that ambition and the IUA’s six-point ‘Charter for Irish Universities’ sets out what universities, working in partnership with Government and other stakeholders, need to do to deliver on the ′′best in Europe′′ ambition.

The IUA also hosts a number of important shared services in researcher mobility, widening participation, the development of engaged teaching and research and internationalisation.
