DCU’s School of Communications has teamed up with the Irish Film Institute (IFI) for a showcase of seven student-led short documentaries produced by the latest cohort of the MA in Documentary Practice. The screening takes place on Saturday, 26 September 2026 as part of the IFI Dublin Documentary Festival 2026.

The MA in Documentary Practice leverages three decades of media and broadcasting expertise within the School of Communications, addressing the expanding audience enthusiasm and industry need for non-fiction content. The programme is hands-on, with comprehensive production modules covering photography, sound design, and video production, designed to equip up-and-coming directors with cutting-edge filming and storytelling skills.
The short documentaries, produced as dissertation work by this year’s class, will screen at the IFI on Saturday, 26 September 2026. The subjects chosen cover a wide range of topics, from the journalistic and the deeply personal, to the poetic and the political. Expect midlands lake swimming, the joys of bowling, exile on the Blasket Islands, and a little taphophilia.
