Dublin City University’s Institute of Education has welcomed the first students onto its brand-new Master of Education in Arts Education Practice, a part-time, two-year postgraduate programme designed to reimagine the role of the arts in education.
The course brings together transdisciplinary approaches that blend professional arts practices with innovative teaching methodologies, reflecting the evolving landscape of contemporary education. Students will engage with arts organisations such as The Ark, alongside galleries, schools, and community partners, ensuring practical learning and real-world impact are central to the programme.
Throughout the two years, participants will benefit from mentorship by leading educators, artists, and changemakers who are passionate about creativity and the transformative power of the arts. Modules will span drama education, embodiment and multimodality, music-making and the arts, arts-based education research, and more.
Dr. Úna McCabe, Head of the School of Arts Education and Movement, expressed her enthusiasm:
“I am delighted to welcome the first cohort of students to this unique master’s programme at the Institute of Education. The mix of educators and artists enrolled and involved in the arts practices on the programme offers an exciting, integrated perspective on arts education and reflects the changes in the current arts education landscape.”
By working as a community of practice, students will explore how arts and creative pedagogies can enrich learning across diverse contexts.
