The AIB Trinity Climate Hub has opened a call for TRDA Group Applications for a major group-based doctoral research project focused exclusively on the theme:

Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Challenges

This prestigious funding opportunity will support four full-time doctoral researchers, along with approved research costs of up to €7,000 per annum per researcher.

The programme is designed to foster ambitious, curiosity-driven and cross-disciplinary research that addresses urgent climate challenges through nature-based approaches. Successful projects will bring together researchers across career stages and disciplines, creating a collaborative research environment that promotes innovation, knowledge exchange and real-world impact.

Funding Support Includes

  • Funding for four full-time PhD researchers

  • Research costs of up to €7,000 per annum per doctoral researcher

  • Support from the AIB Trinity Climate Hub

  • Access to an interdisciplinary research network across Trinity College Dublin

Interdisciplinary Research Focus

Projects must reflect Trinity’s commitment to cross-disciplinary research excellence. Proposals should bring together expertise from:

  • Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

  • STEM disciplines

  • Health Sciences

Each application must be led by a multi- or interdisciplinary PI/Co-PI team of four or more researchers, representing:

  • At least three different Schools

  • Across at least two Faculties

The programme aims to support collaboration across disciplines, encouraging fresh perspectives on climate resilience, sustainability, and environmental innovation.

Driving Climate Impact Through Research

The TRDA Group Award supports ambitious research that explores how nature-based solutions can address climate-related challenges such as biodiversity loss, flooding, urban resilience, sustainable land use, and environmental health.

By bringing together diverse academic expertise, the programme supports the development of solutions that combine scientific, social, cultural and policy perspectives.

This call represents a major opportunity for interdisciplinary research teams seeking to lead impactful climate research with real-world relevance and long-term societal benefit.
