Demand has surged for employees with foreign language skills. However, to do a languages postgrad, it helps if you already have a decent level of proficiency.

Most third-level institutions offer postgraduate qualifications in languages such as French, Spanish, German and Italian. A number also offer MA studies in modern European languages as well as Higher Certificates or Diplomas in a variety of language-related fields, such as Global Communications.

There are a number of other potential career paths for anyone with two or more languages. These include teaching, translation, localisation, editing, publishing, international media, tourism and hospitality.
