Course Description
Midwifery (H.Dip.)
This course is taught by the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin in partnership with The Rotunda Hospital, Dublin and The Coombe Women & Infants Hospital, Dublin. The course is designed to develop midwives with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to become competent, analytical and reflective practitioners, thus enabling them to provide care in a manner that benefits women and their families. The course will consist of the following modules:
- Foundation Skills for Midwifery Practice and Sharing the Woman’s Experience;
- Health Promotion and Infant Feeding;
- Clinical Practice 1 (1-3);
- Clinical Practice 2 (4-7);
- Core Midwifery Practice and Adaptation in Pregnancy;
- Midwifery Practice: Pathophysiology and Unexpected Outcomes of Pregnancy and Childbirth;
- Midwifery Research: Evidence for Midwifery Practice;
The programme is 78 weeks in duration, with 52 of these weeks spent in Midwifery Practice Placements.

Entry Requirements | All applicants whose first language is not English or who have not been educated through the medium of English must meet the Trinity’s English language requirements. Students will also be required to undergo Garda Vetting. Note: only those who have attended interview and are approved to apply for the course may do so.
