Course Description

Education Studies

In recent years phenomenal changes have occurred within the Irish education system. The advent of an era of legislative provision for education and the teaching profession, coupled with an increased emphasis on accountability and transparency, has heralded unprecedented challenges for education policy and practice at system, school and classroom levels.

Curricular reforms at both primary and secondary levels, the introduction of School Self-Evaluation, assessment issues, literacy and numeracy, early years education, leadership and administration in education, intra- school and inter-school collaboration, together with inclusion and diversity , are but some of the issues currently exercising the minds of educational professionals.

More than ever before, the rapid pace of change in education and society requires teachers to be flexible, adaptable, innovative, proactive, reflective and analytical professionals who are aware of and can critically debate the latest trends and developments and implement and progress relevant initiatives as appropriate. The MA in Education Studies aims to satisfy these requirements.
