Digital Games



Digital games comprise a large and fast-growing part of the global entertainment industry. This new masters programme will prepare graduates to become innovators in this exciting field. It provides a multi-disciplinary and well-rounded education in game conception, design and manufacture, uniquely building on the combined expertise of the Digital Media Centre, and the Schools of Media and Computer Science.

This masters programme which was merged with the masters in creative digital media in 2011 provides a thorough grounding in the core skills and knowledge of digital media & gaming technologies and offers specialist production techniques dedicated to the specific needs of the games industry. The course is designed to advance students’ employment potential and addresses the specific needs of employment in the various game development industries particularly focusing on the independent game developer and new gaming platforms.

The masters in digital games is a specialisation under a broader masters in creative digital media which provides a number of other possible specialisations for students; these can be broadly categorised into, but not exclusive to, the following;

(3) Mobile, Smart Device and Dynamic Web Applications Design

Entry RequirementsHonours bachelor degree (2.2 grade or higher) in any discipline relevant to multimedia authoring, design, production or computer science. Selection may be by interview. Note: Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate programmes satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the programme of study applications will be assessed based on your academic grades and may also take into account your work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific programmes.
Carear PathDepending on the modules chosen and their chosen specialisation during the course of the programme, graduates of the programme can pursue careers as web/content designers/developers, IPhone, Android, W7 WebAPP designers, 2D animators, DVD designers, project managers, digital media consultants, media analysts/content creators, game designers, level designers, game software engineers, project managers, consultants, and games analysts. Graduates are also encouraged to innovate in the digital media space and to set-up their own business. Over the course of the programme, graduates will have had the opportunity to generate ideas and identify skillsets required to bring these ideas to fruition. With the range multi disciplinary talent within the class, graduates will find themselves working with others on new and innovative ideas which can be brought to market as a proof of concept, new small business, or 'indie' media developer .
