Accounting - Conversion



The programme is a “conversion” programme of study designed to equip non-accounting graduates with a thorough grounding in accounting theory and practice. The programme has been designed to:

Provide students with a high level of competence in the accounting discipline, thus allowing them the opportunity to progress to study for a professional accounting qualification

Allow students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the key areas of accounting, finance, taxation and business law

Develop students awareness of the ethical and social context in which accounting operates

Enable students’ comprehension of accounting and financial issues for overall business management

Promote the development of self-managed learning skills including time management, prioritisation, critical thinking and reflection

Entry RequirementsNormally applicants will possess a minimum 2:2 honours primary degree (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) in any field other than accounting related fields. In the case of international students, the overseas equivalent as determined by the Course Team in consultation with UL Graduate School Admissions will be acceptable. Where candidates are non-native English language speakers, the candidate should meet the University's English language requirements. In exceptional circumstances an applicant who cannot satisfy the undergraduate requirement may be accepted on the basis of relevant professional experience. Candidates may be interviewed as part of the selection process to determine their suitability for the programme.
Carear PathThe Professional Diploma in Accounting will prepare graduates to pursue careers in accountancy firms, financial institutions, and manufacturing and service companies in Ireland and abroad. Graduates are exempt, in full, from the CAP1 examinations of Chartered Accountants Ireland. The course provides the perfect foundation for a career as a professional accountant by focusing on the core areas of accounting knowledge that will prepare students to excel in the workplace and in their future professional exams.
