The Dublin Institute of Technology is the largest third level Institute in the Republic of Ireland. The Institute has developed a broad spectrum of postgraduate programmes in research at the masters and doctoral level and taught courses at the masters and postgraduate diploma level across its six faculties.
Graduates with a minimum 2.2 Irish honours degree or equivalent may apply for the Institute’s postgraduate courses. These courses are usually one year full time or two years part time.

At DIT, postgraduate research is recognised as an invaluable means of training students in critical inquiry and problem solving skills required for creating and applying knowledge, and encouraging creativity and innovation. The guiding principle is to develop a comprehensive and critical understanding of the subject under examination in the area of study. Interdisciplinary work and collaborative research projects with other educational, research, industry, commercial, professional or governmental organisations in Ireland, the European Union and further afield, are especially emphasised. Projects can be pursued on a full time or part time basis.
Students are encouraged to apply for a place on DIT’s structured PhD programme and to follow a programme of research in one of the following areas of research expertise:
The Graduate Research School supports and develops graduate research education across the organisation and its community of research students and research student supervisors. It provides guidance and assistance throughout the whole life cycle of a research project from the stage of application to the student graduation.
