Hibernia College has won gold and bronze awards at the UK e-Learning Awards 2010, presented by e-Learning Age Magazine, the UK’s leading publication for online and blended learning. The awards are held each year to showcase the latest developments and innovations in the area of e-learning. The awards ceremony took place on November 12th in London’s Sheraton Park Lane Hotel.
The organisers commented on the strength and depth of successful e-learning that is taking place across the globe and presented awards in 16 different categories that showcased the range and quality of e-learning with the private, public and not for profit sectors all being well represented.
Hibernia College (who celebrate their tenth anniversary this year) won their gold award in the “Best use of synchronous e-learning” category for its teacher education programmes: the Higher Diploma in Arts in Primary Education (HDAPE) in Ireland and iTeach in England.
Through these courses, which combine online and onsite education, the college has opened up the teaching profession to a whole new audience previously excluded. In Ireland, the HDAPE now provides more primary school teachers than any other programme, and in England iTeach helped the Training & Development Agency to reach their targets in Maths & Science teachers in the UK for the first time ever.
Hibernia College also won a bronze award in the “Best online or distance learning programme” in recognition of the impact iTeach has had on the English education landscape addressing the shortage of secondary Match, Physics and Chemistry teachers by facilitating professionals who wished to move from industry into teaching.
Sara McDonnell, Executive Vice-President of Hibernia College commented, “these awards are a testament to the world class standards we have always set ourselves and once again show that we can compete with the best in the world when it comes to innovation in e-learning.”
