Grant Denied, What Next?

Postby annaleg » Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:42 am

Hi,

I would really appreciate some advice on my funding situation, I'm really stuck.

I am currently enrolled in my first year of a two year masters course in UL. I have recently been rejected funding which I was completely relying on. I have managed to scrape by until now with money that I had saved up from working full-time for two years but it will soon run out. I am 24, single, have no dependents and have been living away from my parents for almost two years. The reason I have been denied funding is because I have no bills to show that I was not living at home the year prior to my enrolling in the course. I fear I may have to drop out of my course as I have been told that I will not be given funding for next year either. I have adequate proof to show I am now living away from home but it will not be considered because of my lack of proof for the previous year.

Does anybody know if there's anything I can do?

Thanks,

Anna

Can you not get copies of receipts for whatever you paid out for rent etc in the previous year? I cannot suggest anything except to have a look at www.postgrad.ie/funding.html and see if you can find some other source of funding. Otherwise, could you get the college to hold your place while you go back to work for another year? Apart from the obvious of trying to get a student loan with your bank or maybe the Credit Union?

Yes, That would be a good option, if you make your college wait so that you can work for another year and show some bills which can make you undergo funding at UL.
