For those with a gift for organisation and a passion for progress, marketing can be a great career. An ability to interact and communicate well with others is essential so shrinking violets need not apply…
Current Climate
In certain fields of business, marketing and communications is the area which is liable for cut backs when there is a down turn or shift in budget allocation. Due to the widespread fear of an economic downturn it is very likely that this department of a business will be the first area to be subject to budget restrictions; leading to a limitation on the number of jobs available.
Know Your Place
Marketing Executive: Can be responsible for the management of a number of brands within a marketing company's portfolio. The work of managing these brands can involve forecasting sales and arranging promotions and advertising.
Direct Marketing Managers: They plan and co-ordinate direct marketing campaigns. They define the market problem, aim or objective and then oversee the direct marketing strategy that aims to reach the target audience at the lowest cost.
Market Research Executives: Collect, analyse, interpret and present information in order to explore the potential market for a product or service. This may involve organising surveys or opinion polls, analysing statistics or negotiating with clients.
Show Me The Money
Experience is a valuable commodity in the world of marketing; while researchers and executives start off on salaries of €20,000 to €25,000 this figure can rise quickly upwards of €30,000 and will continue in this fashion. Direct Marketing Managers can command salaries from €35,000 to €70,000.
Top Tip
Establish good working relations with your office; important in every profession but vital for marketers as communication with all areas of the office will be an intrinsic part of their role.
