There is a wide range of job roles out there for graduates in architecture and design, but competition is fierce and most newly-qualified graduates will have to start off on low wages before gaining the experience they need to enable them to command a higher salary. As with jobs in media, advertising and marketing, the more experience the graduate can gain from internships and so forth the better. A good portfolio is often essential too. Working hours can be long and draining so you need to be flexible. But once you make your big break, it is possible to work your way up the career ladder onto a much higher rung within a few years where you will reap the rewards of both a satisfying career and a high salary.
